Russia's Defense Ministry has announced a ceasefire to
evacuate people from the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol. A statement from the
ministry said that a humanitarian corridor from Mariupol to Zaporizhia had been
launched through the Russian-controlled port of Berdyansk on Thursday.
The statement added that the UN High Commissioner for
Refugees and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) were proposing
to carry out the humanitarian operation to make it a success.
However, Ukraine has not commented on the ceasefire.
Earlier, a ceasefire was also sought in the city. But it was ruined due to
mistrust and mistrust between the two sides.
Meanwhile, the director general of the French military
intelligence, Eric Vidaud, is being removed from his post. The move comes after
Russia failed to predict a possible invasion of Ukraine. This was confirmed by
the French media on Thursday (March 31).
A French media outlet quoted an internal source in the
Ministry of Armed Forces as saying he had been fired for failing to provide the
necessary briefings and for lack of expertise.
In an interview, Theodore Barkhard, France's chief of
defense staff, acknowledged that Vidaud had contradicted US predictions of a
Russian invasion of Ukraine. Then came the announcement of his removal from the
post.
