Facebook published a report on 16 August. The report had a list of the most viewed posts on social media by people living in the United States in the second quarter of this year. This is the first time the company has published such a list.
However, according to a report in The New York Times,
Facebook made another similar report in the first quarter of this year.
However, they did not publish the report in the end. Because, if it was
published, the image of Facebook might have been damaged.
The New York Times has collected a copy of the unpublished
report. It shows that the most frequent link seen by US Facebook users in the
first quarter may confuse people with the corona vaccine. In other words, the
negativity of the tick has spread more through Facebook, which Facebook did not
want to let people know.
The headline was,
"A" healthy "doctor dies two weeks after receiving the Covid-19
vaccine, as the CDC investigates."
Facebook is already struggling to reduce the spread of false
information about Corona, and the release of the report would have created more
negative perceptions about the platform in the minds of the people, Facebook
officials said.
Facebook, however,
took the initiative to publish the report. However, top executives, including
chief marketing officer Alex Schultz, discussed whether the report would be released
at all. In particular, it was decided not to publish it after the e-mail
circulation on whether it would damage the image of the organization.
"We initially wanted to publish the report,"
Facebook spokesman Andy Stone told The Verge in a statement. However, it
attracted the attention of many people. Stone, however, said Schultz was also
in favor of releasing the report, arguing in favor of it.
